Day 2: 23 July 2009 Road Trip To Mozambique
This is the time for you to relax and ask questions as we spend some time on the road passing through the South African Lowveld, past Jozini Dam and over the mountain where you can see the outstretch of untamed land all the way to the border of Mozambique. We will then pass through the border where we will need your passport. Visas will be obtained at the border. Once we're in Mozambique we will be driving with 4x4's as we are now traveling on sand roads for about 10km to a town called Ponta Do Oura. |

Set in the heart of Zululand , the oldest
game reserve in
Africa where Zulu kings
such as Dingiswayo and Shaka
hunted and
put in place the first conservation laws, where
today the "big five" of African legend
stalk the fertile savannah.
The Park covers some 96 000 ha and
contains an immense diversity of fauna
and flora. Hluhluwe is characterized by
hilly topography and the northern section
of the park is noted for
its wide variety
of both bird and animal life. A Game drive takes you through the park,
where you will
discover the secrets of the
bushveld from the informative
guide. The BIG FIVE - lion, rhino (back & white)
elephant, buffalo
and leopard are all to
be seen in the park, as well as a
variety
of other species, including cheetah, wild
dog and
giraffe.
It is also one of the best places in the
world to see nyala. |

The Aliwal Shoal is an extensive, submerged fossilised
sand dune located approximately 5km offshore, south of Umkomaas, near Durban .
It is easy to see why this reef is
so popular,
as its beauty equals that of many other famous
dive sites world-wide. Besides the beautiful reef and the formidable 'Produce' ship wreck, Aliwal Shoal is the gathering ground for ragged-tooth sharks,
where a dive amongst these spectacular creatures
is truly an unforgettable experience. You will do 4 dives over period of stay from
a rubber duck (zodiac) with an exiting “river launch”. |

In 1652 the Dutch East India Company, yielding to repeated petitions and recommendations from their ships' officers, at last decided to establish a post at Table Bay.
They sent three small ships, the Dromedaris , the Reijger and the Goede Hoop under the command of the 23-year-old Jan Antony van Riebeeck, a ship's surgeon, to establish a stronghold on the shores of Table Bay.
Their objective was to grow vegetables, barter for livestock, with the Hottentot tribes, and build a hospital and a sanctuary for the repair of ships. Jan van Riebeeck's first fort, subsequently replaced by the existing Castle of Good Hope , was Cape Town 's first building. In Cape Town is your choice of activity is varied. Options range from visiting Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was prisoner to
a tour through the wine lands where you can appreciate some of the world's best wines. |
